KFC China Launches ‘Salty and Sweet’ Oreo-Flavored Chicken Burger

Buzz

KFC China has found a new way to make the internet argue about fast food. The chain has teamed up with Oreo for a chicken burger that mixes crispy fried chicken with the familiar chocolate flavor of the famous sandwich cookie.

The limited-edition Oreo-Flavored Original Chicken Burger arrived in China on August 28, 2026. KFC describes the unusual creation as a collision between “salty and sweet,” and the finished product certainly looks like it was built to grab attention. The burger comes inside a black cocoa bun stamped with a pattern inspired by an Oreo cookie. Its dark color makes the whole sandwich look like an oversized Oreo, at least until the fried chicken starts peeking out from the sides.

Inside, KFC adds a fried chicken patty and creamy mashed potato mixed with Oreo cookie crumbs. The result combines savory chicken, smooth potato, chocolate notes, and cookie sweetness in a single bite.

KFC and Oreo Take Sweet and Salty to Another Level

Mouth Attack / IG / The Oreo chicken burger is part of a wider collaboration between KFC and Oreo that has been playing with the flavors of both brands.

Oreo made its own contribution in July 2026 with a limited-edition KFC Original Chicken-Flavored Cookie. That product reversed the idea by bringing KFC-inspired savory seasoning into a snack normally associated with sweet cream filling.

The two products make the partnership feel more like an exchange than a simple brand promotion. KFC puts Oreo into its chicken, while Oreo brings KFC flavor into its cookies. The burger is easily the more visually dramatic half of that exchange. The black bun immediately signals that this is not a standard KFC sandwich, and the Oreo-style pattern makes the connection obvious before customers even taste it.

KFC and Oreo have also supported the campaign with themed experiences in Chinese cities. Pop-up events in places including Shanghai, Beijing, and Hangzhou have given customers another reason to interact with the collaboration.

Customers Cannot Agree on the Oreo Chicken Burger

Early reactions have been sharply divided. Some customers and fast-food fans have described the combination of chocolate cookie flavor and fried chicken as awkward, with critics questioning if the product exists mainly to create attention.

The mashed potato and Oreo crumb mixture has drawn particular interest because it sits directly alongside the chicken. For anyone used to eating Oreo cookies with milk or ice cream, seeing those crumbs inside a savory chicken sandwich creates an immediate contrast.

Still, reports from people who have actually tried the burger suggest the flavor may be less extreme than its appearance. Some tasters have described it as a fairly normal chicken burger with a mild cocoa or chocolate note. That makes sense given the structure of the sandwich. Fried chicken remains the main component, while the Oreo influence comes through the bun and crumb mixture rather than replacing the entire savory base.

The global giant food chain has experimented with unexpected combinations before. The company has previously attracted attention with an Original Chicken Flavored Latte, another product that pushed its signature savory flavor into territory where customers would not normally expect it.

The Strange Burger Makes Smart Marketing Sense

Mouth Attack / IG / China has become an especially active market for unusual fast-food collaborations and limited menu releases. The Oreo burger fits comfortably into that environment.

It takes two brands that customers already recognize and combines them in a format unusual enough to feel new without introducing completely unfamiliar ingredients.

Limited availability adds another reason to try it. Customers know the sandwich will not remain on the menu forever, so anyone curious about the flavor has less time to postpone an order.
That sense of urgency can turn a novelty item into an event. People may buy the burger simply because they want to form their own opinion before it disappears.

The product also photographs extremely well, which is useful in a market shaped by social media. Its black patterned bun looks immediately different from a normal fast-food burger and communicates the Oreo collaboration without requiring much explanation.
