The Noodle Box gets it. We really do. We are not always sure what ‘it’ is, but we are sure we get it, and regularly! And we want to share that remarkable quality, so we never give up trying new things, looking for new ways to offer better food, a better customer experience and a better business model. A sample of some of the changes we’ve made recently? Tap Beer at both Kitsilano and Fisgard st locations, new wines across the board, free range eggs in all of our kitchens, Oceanwise designation, reusable noodle box bowls (while stocks last), a beautiful new cedar sign at Fisgard st, the list goes on.

But perhaps the most eagerly anticipated of all this newness, is the imminent return of the old Noodle Box cart. Fully updated, and featuring new menus, new people and new places, we are all very excited to revisit street food, and get out amongst the masses, just like we did back in the day. Stay tuned for more information, dates and locations.

Rumours abound that there will be a new location opening in Downtown Vancouver this year. Sounds like a great idea to me!

We also have an active Facebook page that we welcome all new comers to. The Noodle Box Canada is the name, check it out….

Happy Noodling

The Noodle Box is celebrating the cold and wet weather with a month long tribute to slow cooked curries, braises and asian inspired specials. Rich flavours, tender meats, hearty root vegetables, and broths redolent with exotic spices and aromatics will be bubbling away in our kitchens. Each store will be creating its own unique take on classics such as vindaloo, rogan josh, and rendang, as well as venturing out into new territories using the flavours and techniques of Malaysia, India and Thailand. I urge you to stop in and sample what our chefs will be creating all February. Slow cooked curries are some of the best flavours around and Noodle Box chefs cook them with love and take a lot of pride in their creations.

We guarantee no Christmas carols, no turkey, and no Santa hats! So if you are looking for a respite from the madness, swing by The Noodle Box, and relax a little! We might even have a little rum and eggnog on special!

New Things, Vegetarian specials day, Wednesday. If you’re in the market for a tasty meat free asian inspired dish, come in on a Wednesday, they sell well so get in early…

Check out the newest edition to the family, Noodle Box Langford is now open! In all its shiny new glory, the store resembles Kitsilano, and has a great crew with new and familiar faces. The Noodle Box – saving communities from the competition, one store at a time!!!!!

We are introducing a new POS system in our stores, so please be patient, and if there are issues, let us know.

Last thing, we’ve brought in some new types and sizes of boxes, plates and bowls recently to enable our chefs to create new and different specials and presentations.

I always recommend returning customers to try the special, such as the stuffed pork loin and asian pear, and the roasted quail pictured. In our kitchens are some remarkably talented chefs, creating dishes and recreating classics. If there is ever anything that you think we should be doing, just let us know, we love to take requests!

Cheers, and here’s to 2010

Autumn is here, and chefs rejoice! Harvest time brings us such wonderful produce, the cooler weather makes cooking so much more pleasurable, and we can get back into slow cooking rich, aromatic curries and sauces. We are bringing in local products for specials, such as free range pork from Vancouver Island, smoked tofu from Saltspring, local scallops, and any other delicacies we can get our hands on. Vindaloo, Tikka Masala, and Rendang are words we love to be using in the kitchen. When you see them on the specials board, they are well worth trying.

We are also making upgrades and improvements to the stores to improve our energy efficiency and environmental footprint. Our Douglas st location now has an efficient heat pump, our Kitsilano store has a new delicase, and all of our locations are installing new Dyson Airblades. These are paperless hand dryers that use very low amounts of power, and leave your hands dry and soft feeling. You really have to use them to see. This will also save countless cases of paper products. We have also upgraded our point of sale system, dragging ourselves slowly into the new millenium. Please bear with us as we work out the kinks.

Finally, the big news at The Noodle Box is our 4th location opening up in November! Located in Langford in the new Canwest Mall, next to Best Buy, Victorias’ West Shore will have another welcome dining option. If youre ever out that way on a Friday night looking for somewhere to eat, you will know how difficult it can be. We wish their crew all the best, and hope everyone will get out there and see what the fuss is all about!

Happy Noodling!

The sun has finally arrived, and all the wonderful things it brings us abound! Beaches, tans, music, cold drinks and steaming hot noodles. Hang on, that last one doesn’t really fit! Or does it? Spicy asian cuisine was created in a climate of exceedingly hot and humid weather. The theory goes that the chilli causes you to sweat, which in turn cools the skin as the sweat evaporates. And if theres one thing that our cooks can do, its add chilli to your noodles. So as the temperature rises outside, why not be brave, and grab your next meal 1 step up the chili scale. Bathe yourself in that authentic asian dining sensation, the pleasurable pain of a good chilli burn.

If youre not up for noodles, keep an eye on our specials boards, as all through the hot days of summer we will be rolling out a variety of fresh, seasonal salads, and those amazing Vietnamese rice paper rolls. At front counter, our new fleet of blenders will be busy blitzing fresh fruits, ice and tropical liqueurs into wonderful cocktails of different colours and flavours. A perfect compliment to our fresh and spicy food.

For the social networkers out there, you can follow us on twitter, at @thenoodlebox where we would love to hear from you. Tell us your favourite specials, what you would like to see us doing, and in turn we will be dishing up ideas, news, thoughts and goings-on.
Keep on smiling noodlers!

As winter gives way to spring, and sunshine makes a welcome return, The Noodle Box awakens from its slow-cooked slumber. Spring heralds the return of many of our favourite specials ingredients. New seasons Halibut, and Salmon, Local Spring Lamb as well as the return of a wide variety of locally produced vegetables. Our chefs will no longer shake their heads at the logistics of Chinese-grown leafy greens, and Chilean green onions! Instead, we will be showcasing the bounty of Vancouver Island, and the Fraser Valley, in our regular menu, as well as in our daily specials.

Other exciting developments to be on the look out for are our Thai Fried Chicken Wings, which we are slowly introducing to our lineup. These delectable morsels are spicy, sweet, sour and salty, and fall off the bone tender. You will be hard pressed to find a better wing! To accompany the wings, we are bringing in some new beers from South East Asia, such as Taj and Cobra from India, as well as locally produced seasonal beers from breweries such as Phillips in Victoria, and Whistler In Vancouver.

We are also introducing desert specials this spring, such as Sweet Fried Roti with Caramel sauce, and Banana Spring Rolls with vanilla ice-cream.

Other news of the season

Our business hours return to normal summer season hours.
We are offering corporate accounts with monthly invoicing to make ordering lunches for the whole group easier, especially useful for big organizations and government offices. Contact sarah@thenoodlebox.net for details.
Heres to Spring!
